How to Grow Spiritually

Five Guidelines For Growth

Because you want to grow closer to God, you must be committed to:

1.  Prayer: Looking to God in Dependence When I Pray

I acknowledge how much I need God. Have I acknowledged this dependence today, snatching moments to talk with Him and listen for His prompting?

[I will] draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that [I may] receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

2.  Study: Looking in God's Word for Direction

God's word offers me plain, achievable counsel and direction. Have I made the study of His word a priority today so that I may know Him better and more clearly follow His will for my life?

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

3.  Faith: Looking at My World From God's Perspective

I believe that God is at work in my life. Even when the way seems unclear, have I responded to His truth and direction with complete trust and obedience today?

Now faith is..the conviction of things not seen..without faith it is impossible to please [God]. (Hebrews 11:1,6)

4.  Outreach: Looking Around for God-Given Opportunities

I want to share God's grace with the people He brings into my life. Have I responded to and created opportunities to talk about and model Christ's life with those who have yet to know Him?

Always [be] ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give and account for the hope that is in you. (1 Peter 3:15)

5.  Accountability: Looking to Others for Godly Support

God provides other believers to encourage me in my personal walk with Christ. Am I wisely entrusting myself to select relationships that are characterized by vulnerability and authentic love?

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17)
